'Beeline' dispatch - 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 'Super Bee' sedan

It is a name from the American muscle car past -- and the quickest sedan in the Dodge lineup. Introduced last year, the rear-drive Charger SRT8 features balanced performance, race-bred handling and world class braking.

For 2007, the Charger SRT8 adds the availability of a Super Bee Special Edition package. The new package features Detonator yellow exterior paint, flat-black SRT hood, flat-black rear decklid face, dual-zone air conditioning, heated front seats, automatic headlights, one-touch power front windows, air filtering system, body-color stitching on steering wheel and shift knob, Super Bee graphic on doors, rear quarters and rear fascia, Super Bee logo on front fenders, body-color HEMI decal on hood bulge and polished SRT8 wheels.

Powered by a big-bore 6.1L HEMI V8, the Charger SRT8 transfers power to the pavement through an SRT-modified A580 five-speed automatic transmission with adaptive electronic control and performance-tuned AutoStick driver-interactive manual control. A heavy-duty four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and axles.

As an all-around performer, the Charger SRT8 is capable of impressive numbers: zero-to-60 mph in the low five second range; quarter-mile time in the mid-13 second range and braking distance from 60-to-zero in approximately 110 feet. The Charger SRT8 is also capable of accomplishing SRT's signature performance test of zero-100-zero mph in the mid-16-second range.

Styling cues for the Charger SRT8 include a front fascia featuring integrated ducts that direct fresh air to cool the brakes. The front fascia also incorporates an air dam to reduce lift. The hood is equipped with a functional scoop to funnel cool air into the engine compartment. The rear fascia features integrated lower strakes to direct air flow and aggressive cutouts to accommodate dual 3.5-inch exhaust tips. A dramatic decklid spoiler set on dual stanchions increases downforce for high-speed stability and traction.

The Charger rides on a robust steel chassis that serves as the foundation for the performance-tuned, four-wheel independent suspension system. The Charger SRT8 features a ride height that is one-half inch lower than the standard Charger sedan. SRT-tuned dampers, specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings, and large-diameter anti-sway bars work with the suspension system components.

Control hardware up front features a Short-and Long-Arm (SLA) suspension with high upper 'A' arm, lateral and diagonal lower links with dual ball joint front knuckle, coil spring over gas-charged shock absorbers and revised stabilizer bar lower 'A' arm. At the rear, a five-link suspension works with coil springs, gas-charged shock absorbers and isolated suspension cradle. Stopping power for the Charger SRT8 is accomplished by Brembo performance brake calipers, with the red finish, characteristic of all Dodge SRT vehicles.

Handling is enhanced for performance with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) which includes brake assist, anti-lock brakes and all-speed traction control. The Charger SRT8 rides on unique SRT-developed five-spoke 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Tires are high-performance Goodyear Supercar F1 three-season tires with asymmetrical tread. Four season tires are an available option.

Inside the cabin, the Dodge Charger sports a driver-oriented cockpit designed with a performance mindset. A 180-mph speedometer, tachometer and temperature gauge feature dark faces, unique to the Charger SRT8. An LED display within the gauge cluster is driver- configurable for oil temperature, oil pressure and tire pressure readouts.

Seating features power-adjustable, deeply sculpted and highly bolstered sport seats in the front fitted with performance suede inserts to hold occupants during aggressive driving. Rear seats have matching performance suede inserts. All seats have contrasting red stitching. Other sporty touches include "carbon fiber" technical leather trim on the steering wheel for better grip, and special finishing on the center stack.

The Dodge Charger SRT8 has ample seating for five adults with plenty of storage throughout the passenger cabin.
